Aquaponics is the healthful combination of hydroponics and aquaculture, transforming the drawbacks of each into a mutually beneficial syncronicity.

Aquaculture is the farming of fish. Unfortunately this process has its drawbacks. The waste generated by fish must be emptied into rivers or oceans which creates ecological imbalance. Also, the process requires frequent water changes which is not ideal for water conservation. Often farmers limit the water changes for economic purposes which results in fish swimming/feeding in toxic or near toxic water.

Hydroponics is the growing of plants in circulating water, but also has its disadvantages. This method requires
expensive nutrient concoctions to promote plant growth and frequently these are derived from unsustainable and/or unnatural sources. In addition, while the end product may be visually appealing, it is many times less nutrient dense than produce grown in healthy soil or aquaponically. This results in the produce being less flavorful and less nutritious. Refer to the following link for a more thorough analysis: https://www.theaquaponicsource.com/aquaponics-vs-hydroponics/
Why Aquaponics?
By no means can aquaponics replace cultivating in the soil, however it can be ideal for many applications.
